In conjunction with local farmers and the international scientific community, Mars develops and globally disseminates best practices in cocoa production, distributes selected cocoa planting materials, investigates new methods to control pests and disease and discovers new ways to improve the quality of cocoa. This plays an important role in Mars' overall commitment to producing models of sustainable cocoa growing systems by improving Mars' knowledge and capacity to drive sustainable cocoa production.
Mars' decision to remain in Brazil after the fungal disease Witches' Broom devastated most of the Brazilian cocoa crop led to important advances in improving the crop's durability. These advances are now in use throughout the world, from Brazil to the rest of the cocoa-producing countries.
